The suspect who allegedly killed three sex workers with a kitchen knife in the brothel in Vienna-Brigittenau is now also accused of attacking a doctor in a Viennese hospital.
His defense lawyer Philipp Springer said on request: "I do not deny that." The lawyer confirmed the hospitalization.
Taken to a psychiatric hospital
Nina Bussek, spokeswoman for the Vienna public prosecutor's office, also confirmed the 27-year-old's hospitalization. "We received the information today", said Bussek. According to the information, the man was taken to a psychiatric clinic because he refused to eat or drink. He is said to have said that they wanted to poison him.
Suspect "basically confesses"
On February 23, the three women were stabbed by the attacker in an erotic studio. The prime suspect, an Afghan asylum seeker, was arrested a short time later near the scene of the crime.
After the horrific act of bloodshed, the suspect "basically confessed" during questioning on Saturday afternoon.
Motive for the crime still unclear
It is still unclear whether the suspect had obtained the knife used specifically for the attack on the women. If this proves to be the case, it would indicate that the crime was planned. A possible motive for the crime and the background to the devastating knife attack still need to be investigated in more detail.
