Following the suspected arson attack on the Tesla plant in Grünheide near Berlin, the US electric vehicle manufacturer is still expecting production to be down for days. CEO Elon Musk is visibly angry about this. On X, he raged against "stupid eco-terrorists".

"They are either the stupidest eco-terrorists in the world or they are puppets of those who have no good environmental goals," the US billionaire wrote on his social media platform on Tuesday. The post was partly written in German (see below).

"These guys are crazy in a bizarre way," Musk also scolded in an interview with the German daily newspaper "Die Welt". According to Tesla, the consequences of the power outage are enormous: "We don't currently expect to be able to ramp up production again this week," said plant manager André Thierig on Wednesday. "Almost all of the approximately 12,000 employees had to be sent home on Tuesday due to the production shutdown." Thierig spoke of damage "in the high nine-figure range". Trucks could be seen piling up in front of the plant on Tuesday.

As reported, unknown perpetrators had set fire to an electricity pylon in a field. The result was a blackout at Tesla's only European car factory and for tens of thousands of residents in the region. The Tesla factory was evacuated and production was halted. Tens of thousands of residents in the region were temporarily affected by the blackout. The suspected attack has triggered a debate about better protection for sensitive infrastructure in Germany.

State government wants to strengthen protection
Thierig said: "We hope that the security authorities in Brandenburg and Germany will think about how this can be secured." The state government also announced its intention to strengthen protection, but also emphasized that there can be no one hundred percent security.

Police: letter of confession is genuine
Meanwhile, a letter of confession from the left-wing extremist "Vulkan Group" has been classified as genuine by the police. Among other things, it read: "We sabotaged Tesla today." Nevertheless, the German investigators are not yet talking about an attack.
