New poll
This is important to US Republican voters
Migration is particularly important to people who vote for US Republicans. This has now been revealed by post-election surveys conducted by data service provider Edison Research on Super Tuesday. Candidate Donald Trump has also promised a tough stance against illegal migration.
In North Carolina, the position on immigration was the deciding factor for 41% in who they voted for. In Virginia, the issue is of most concern to voters, while in the US state of North Carolina, the majority of respondents (63%) believed that migrants without legal residence status should be deported. The majority of participants in Virginia and California agreed with this statement.
Economic situation also important
Another important concern for voters is the state of the economy. In North Carolina, around one in ten people mentioned abortion policy (eleven percent) and foreign policy (ten percent).
Depending on the US state, 55 to 68% think that candidate Donald Trump would be suitable as president even if he were convicted of a crime. In addition, many supporters (50 to 62%) believe that Democrat Joe Biden was not legitimately elected. Since his defeat in 2020, Trump has repeatedly and falsely claimed that his victory was "stolen" from him.
Trump received the majority of votes in 14 US states on Super Tuesday; his internal party candidate Nikki Haley has since withdrawn (see video above). The US presidential election itself is on November 5.
Biden courts Haley's supporters
US President Joe Biden of the Democrats is now courting the support of Haley's supporters. "I know that Democrats, Republicans and Independents disagree on many issues and have strong beliefs. But I also know that what unites Democrats, Republicans and Independents is a love of America," he said on Wednesday.
Common ground can be found, for example, in standing up for the rule of law, dealing with each other and preserving NATO. Only a few in the current Republican Party have the courage to stand up to Trump. Haley was prepared to tell the truth about him.
