"Satisfying day"
Comeback in Are? Shiffrin completes slalom run
Mikaela Shiffrin has completed a slalom run for the first time in seven weeks. She shared this with her fans on Instagram, but is still keeping a low profile. Will she make her comeback this weekend in Are?
"Some progress is more satisfying than others. Today was a satisfying day," wrote the US American in a video she posted on Instagram. It shows the 28-year-old completing a slalom run for the first time since her injury seven weeks ago.
Meanwhile, she has already written off the big crystal globe. Lara Gut-Behrami had performed too well recently. In recent weeks, the Swiss athlete has turned a 340-point deficit into a 385-point lead.
"Lara was impressive to watch. She's really at a very high level at the moment," said Shiffrin, paying tribute to her opponent. However, the US American is looking forward to her comeback, her sixth nomination as World Athlete of the Year and the strong performances of her teammates.
Start in the slalom?
Whether it will be enough for a comeback this weekend in Are, Sweden, is still uncertain. There is speculation that the 28-year-old could skip the giant slalom on Saturday but compete in the slalom on Sunday.
Megan Harrod, head of communications for the US team, announced that Shiffrin would not be commenting on this before the races and that the situation would have to be reassessed on a daily basis. "I'm grateful for everyone who is helping us with training and fitness rooms along the way," Shiffrin wrote again on Instagram to thank everyone for their support during this difficult time.
