Thanks to a DNA match
Treppelweg case solved! Serbian man drove over woman (33)
At the end of September, a young woman from Tennengau was found covered in blood on the banks of the Salzach near Hallein-Rif. Five months later, the perpetrator has now been caught. He is a 45-year-old Serbian man who is known to the police and has no criminal record.
Covered in blood and seriously injured, a passer-by found a young woman last year on the Treppelweg near the banks of the Salzach in Hallein-Rif. The then 32-year-old woman from Tennengau barely survived that day in September. Meticulous investigations and appointed experts were able to rule out a violent crime, but there was no decisive trace of the perpetrator.
Until now: a 45-year-old Serbian has confessed. The DNA database has also unmasked him. The man, who has lived in and around Hallein in recent years, was stopped by the police last week and taken into custody pending deportation.
DNA sample convicted perpetrator
The man's DNA was also taken during the identification process. The Serbian's highly personal identifying features promptly yielded a match! After five months, it was clear that his DNA was on the clothes of the woman from Tennengau who had been left on Treppelweg.
The convicted perpetrator had been riding his bike along the Uferweg that September morning and had had a problem with his chain. He had simply run the woman down with his red bike, as a traffic report had already confirmed. The victim suffered a traumatic brain injury and broken bones.
Investigations continue
The Serbian man is keeping quiet about the exact course of events and, above all, why he simply left the woman lying there and hit and ran. The police are therefore still investigating. The perpetrator is already in custody.
