Gas pipe damaged, alarm at apartment block

Around 50 firefighters attended the block of flats in Jenbach.

Major operation on Wednesday evening in Tyrol: After a gas pipe was damaged during construction work in Jenbach, there was also a danger at the adjacent block of flats. After taking measurements, however, there was soon a sigh of relief.

The incident occurred at around 6 p.m. during core drilling work for a hot water pipe at the apartment building in Herbert-von-Pichler-Straße. A natural gas pipe in the concrete wall was drilled into, resulting in a strong gas leak into the open air and a distinct smell of gas.

Fortunately, it did not take long to repair the damage.

Control center alerted emergency services
A 25-year-old local man involved in the work immediately made an emergency call, whereupon the Tyrol control center set the rescue chain in motion. The Jenbach fire department cordoned off a large area at the scene. By turning off the main gas line, another large gas leak was prevented. An inspection of all rooms and apartments in the apartment building did not reveal any dangerous gas concentrations. The all-clear was given at around 6.25 pm. None of the residents had to be evacuated. No persons were injured as a result of the incident.
