Lucas Braathen is back! On Thursday, the 23-year-old announced his comeback in the Ski World Cup. After friction with the Norwegian federation, the "bird of paradise" will be competing for Brazil in the 2024/25 season.

"I will return and compete for Brazil. I'm very proud of it," announced Braathen, who wants to be "part of the show" again, at Hangar-7 in Salzburg on Thursday. Brazil's Ski President Anders Petterson was delighted: "He is one of the best skiers in the world, a role model for everyone."

Everything is subordinated to the ambitious goal of being the first Brazilian skier to celebrate World Cup victories and win medals at the Olympic Games and World Championships. Braathen has ruled out a return to the Norwegian federation: "I have made my decision."

"That shaped me"
His love of sport has its roots in the streets of Sao Paolo. He used to play soccer there with his friends. "I grew up in an untypical environment for winter sportsmen and women, and that shaped me. And that's exactly what I want to stand up for: For acceptance of a multicultural background and diversity in the conservative sports community. That you can achieve anything, no matter who you are or where you come from," said the technical specialist.

His mother is from Brazil, his father from Norway. He himself likes to dress femininely, paints his fingernails and always stands out in the ski circus with his relaxed and cheeky manner.

Surprising resignation
Last year, there were disputes with the Norwegian Ski Association over personal and marketing rights, which is why the 23-year-old surprisingly pulled out in October.

Slalom ball already at home
But now he's back in the Ski World Cup! Braathen, who won the slalom globe in the 2022/23 season, is celebrating his comeback and will be competing for Brazil in the coming season. Samba on two poles - to the great delight of ski fans!
