Free for the shooting
High-risk wolf came too close to a family with a small child
Another high-risk wolf has been released for shooting in Upper Austria. The animal had come too close to a walking family with a three-year-old toddler in Unterweißenbach and could only be scared off with difficulty. The wolf can now be officially shot until the end of March.
On Thursday, a wolf encounter from last Saturday (March 2) was reported to the authorities. A wolf approached a walking family (parents with a 3-year-old toddler) in the area of the market town of Unterweißenbach at less than 50 meters during the day and could only be scared off with difficulty.
14 hunting areas affected
Due to the regulations of the Upper Austrian Wolf Management Ordinance, a high-risk wolf is to be assumed, which can now be taken within 4 weeks, i.e. up to and including Saturday, March 30, within a radius of 10 kilometers - starting from the last deterrence location, i.e. Unterweißenbach. This affects a total of 14 hunting areas in the districts of Freistadt and Perg.
If families with small children no longer dare to go out in broad daylight, then danger is imminent.

In addition, a second shooting permit is open for a high-risk wolf in the Sandl area. This may be taken up to and including Monday, March 25. The hunting areas overlap in some cases.
