Kane triple pack
Automatically saved draft
FC Bayern Munich got the frustration off their chest and dispatched Mainz 05 8:1 (3:1). Leipzig also defeated bottom side Darmstadt 2-0 (1-0) thanks to a goal from ÖFB team player Christoph Baumgartner. The 3-3 (1-1) draw between Mönchengladbach and 1. FC Köln was a thrilling Rhine derby.
In addition to Baumgartner, the Austrians shone on Saturday in the Bundesliga mainly as providers of assists. Florian Kainz set up Cologne's first two goals, Stefan Lainer Gladbach's 2:2. In Leipzig, Xaver Schlager provided the assist for his ÖFB teammate. Baumgartner, who came on as a substitute at the break, made sure of the final score with a low shot from the edge of the box (50').
Kane's 30th goal of the season
Bayern tore penultimate-placed Mainz to shreds. Harry Kane now has 30 league goals for the season after scoring a treble (13th, 45th +7th, 70th). The England captain also set up Leon Goretzka's 2:0 with his strike (19th) and Jamal Musiala's 5:1 (61st). The 18-year-old Musiala also shone with two further assists in the outgoing coach Thomas Tuchel's side's highest win of the season.
The Mainz goal from a free-kick by Nadiem Amiri (31') was worth seeing. Thomas Müller made it 4:1 (47'), Serge Gnabry made it 6:1 (66') and the strong Goretzka scored the final goal (92'). Konrad Laimer was in the starting eleven for the first time since the end of January. The ÖFB team mainstay took up a position alongside Goretzka in midfield. For Mainz, Philipp Mwene played on the left flank, while Karim Onisiwo saw a nasty knock from the bench. League leaders Leverkusen host Wolfsburg on Sunday at the end of the 25th round.
3:3 in a racy Rhine derby
Fan groups came to blows in the run-up to the Rhine derby, with 131 Cologne and 74 Mönchengladbach fans taken into custody on Friday. Events then came thick and fast during the match. Cologne went ahead twice through the co-production of Kainz and Faride Alidou (7th, 64th), but Gladbach turned the game around with a brace from joker Robin Hack (71st, 73rd). However, the 16th-placed team in the table came back through Damion Downs (79'). Augsburg defeated Heidenheim 1-0.
