Defective radiant heater
After the fire: family now looking for a new home
Mother, father and son lost three pets and their home in Burgenland. They are currently finding peace and quiet in the village inn.
Imagine coming home after a long day at work and realizing that nothing is the same: Nothing is as it was. The house you left in the morning has burned down and is no longer habitable. And three of your nine pets are dead. They fell victim to a fire that nobody claims to have noticed.
Apprentice was the first on the scene
For Nadine and Mike S., two truck drivers from Eltendorf, this idea became reality on Thursday evening. According to their son Elvin, smoke was already billowing out of the building when he returned home at around 5 pm. The apprentice alerts the fire department and calls for the five dogs and four cats that are in the house and yard while the family is away. Some of the animals respond to his call.
First aid
Two 15-month-old dogs named "Maddox" and "Gipsy" as well as a cat can only be rescued dead from the burning living room by the emergency services. Since then, the S. family has been accommodated in the village inn and hopes to find a new place to stay soon. Staying with friends or sleeping in a caravan is only a temporary solution.
The cause of the fire has now also been clarified: the fire was started by a faulty radiant heater in the hallway.
