Gswb case in Oberndorf
“We were just told to ventilate more”
A family in Oberndorf has been battling extreme mold infestation for months. Gswb, the housing developer, has so far only given them tips. The on-site caretaker can't do much more than call for help.
Mold everywhere you look. In the entrance hall, living room and bedrooms. A family of several in Michael-Grundinger-Straße in Oberndorf no longer knows what to do about the unhealthy stains.
Once again, the chaotic housing association Gswb, Salzburg's largest non-profit housing developer, is responsible. It has been criticized for weeks. At the end of February, director Peter Rassaerts had to vacate his executive chair - the "Krone" reported.
It remains to be seen how quickly the multi-million-euro company owned by the state and city of Salzburg will manage to get to grips with the mistakes of the past and satisfy forgotten tenants. There seems to be plenty of work to do. This is also shown by the case in Flachgau.
"We moved in in 2019. In the first winter, little mold formed on the windows, no problem. More so the following year, and it's been unbearable since 2022," says one tenant, describing her suffering. What particularly worries her: "My children sleep just centimetres away from the mold. I can't keep up with the cleaning and the mold remover is a chemical bomb. I can't take any more!" The lady does not want to give her name for fear of losing the apartment.
The problem in the 35-year-old building is the windows. "I wipe water off the windowsills every day. We have a nice caretaker. He was often there and even called companies to get things done. But in the end, all Gswb ever says is that we should ventilate more. That's a joke!"
