Russian investor wanted to sell the property on Lake Ossiach back to the state - for more than twice the price.
Part of a journalist's job is to ask the right questions. Whether in surveys, background discussions or interviews - the most exciting stories have to be asked. But when politicians ask each other questions, it doesn't have to be any less interesting.
The Freedom Party had demanded answers from Deputy Provincial Governor and Investment Officer Martin Gruber (ÖVP) about the "Lake Ossiach Holiday Village" case - as reported, the property was sold to a Russian investor for just 4.7 million in 2019. "Bypassing parliament", the Blue Party is still annoyed.
And there is still no sign of the promised investment of 23.4 million euros; the Graz Higher Regional Court is currently deciding on the resulting penalty payments of 10,000 euros per month in the second instance.
Light into the darkness
In any case, the provincial vice president and the responsible Carinthian investment administration (K-BV) have tried to shed some light on the matter. However, the written response (available to the "Krone") raises completely new questions. It states that the investor wanted to sell the property back to the state - for more than twice the price.
The question also arises as to why no reverse transaction option was specified here, as was the case with Klagenfurt Airport, for example. According to K-BV, the then managing director Reinhard Zechner did not consider such an option on the "recommendation" of his lawyer. Why? Zechner did not want to comment on this. For FP leader Erwin Angerer, this is "a scandal! It must not happen that state property is sold off far too cheaply!"
So even after around five years, there are still many question marks surrounding the sale of the vacation village... It should remain exciting.
