At play-off game
Chiefs fans suffer frostbite – amputations
Due to the extreme cold at the NFL play-off game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Miami Dolphins, fans have had their toes and fingers amputated after suffering frostbite. This was announced by a Missouri hospital on Friday (local time), without giving specific details of the number of people affected. According to the statement, dozens of people had to be treated for frostbite during the cold spell in the Kansas City area surrounding the game on January 13.
Twelve people-including visitors to the NFL game-had to undergo amputations. More could follow in the coming weeks. During the game, it was as cold as minus 20 degrees Celsius, and the wind chill made the temperature in Arrowhead Stadium feel like minus 33 degrees Celsius. However, the record for the coldest game is still held by a game between the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys in 1967, when the temperature was said to have been minus 44 degrees Celsius.
Super Bowl clinched
The Chiefs around quarterback star Patrick Mahomes had won the game against Miami and won the Super Bowl again in February. Pop superstar Taylor Swift was also in the stadium for the game against the Dolphins. The girlfriend of Chiefs professional Travis Kelce watched the game from a heated box.
