Old customs: chatting again in Mauer

After decades, old customs are now being revived in Mauer - participation is expressly encouraged

Good things take time! Ernst Paleta, the Liesing district veteran, can confirm this from many different areas - after all, he has been firmly anchored in district politics for many years. But traditions are also close to the Liesinger's heart. Paleta: "The revival of the old Easter custom of 'ratcheting', which I had already planned for 2020, was unfortunately delayed by Corona. But now the time has finally come!"

Ratcheting on Holy Saturday
On Holy Saturday, March 30, at 12 noon, the ratchets will sound again in Mauer for the first time after a decades-long break! It will be a so-called "stand ratchet" in front of the church of St. Erhard on Mauer's main square. And Paleta is hoping for a lively turnout: "Everyone who once took part in the ratchet is cordially invited to join in again. But those who weren't able to take part in their childhood or youth are also welcome. It's never too late to try something new!"

Parish supports the campaign
Perhaps some of you still have a ratchet from your childhood in the cellar. If not, that's not a problem. Paleta: "I'm pleased that some ratchets are still kept in the vicarage and that the most important utensils for reviving the old custom are still available."
