Pain in her leg
Crash slows down ÖSV girl in the fight for overall victory
"It's really hard to have to watch the race slope from the couch and not be able to race," sighed Emily Schöpf. The reason why she missed yesterday's European Cup giant slalom in Aal (Nor)? "I fell during training in Geilo on Friday and bruised the edge of my right leg," reveals the 23-year-old. "I could hardly walk on Friday, it was better on Saturday, but I'm a long way from being able to race."
Lead lost
Bitter, as the Montafon native also had no chance of scoring points in the battle for victory in the overall EC standings. She lost the lead yesterday to Janine Schmitt (Sz), who finished in 20th place, scored eleven points and is now one point ahead of Schöpf. As the racer from Tschagguns will also have to miss today's race, the Swiss racer's lead could still grow. "At the moment, I can only look from day to day and hope that I'll be fit again by the final in a week's time," says Emily.
Support from her own team
And hoping for help from her teammates. Victoria Olivier from Auer achieved her second EC result on Sunday with 14th place, while Mäggy Egger from Lech achieved her best result with tenth place. "I'm particularly happy with the second run," explained the 23-year-old, who sympathized with her roommate Schöpf. "I would hope that Emily is fit again soon and that it works out for her with victory in the overall standings."
