Reconstruction agreement
Tyrol sends 100 mountain sheep to Ukraine
Representatives of Tyrol and the Transcarpathian region in war-torn Ukraine signed a framework agreement for reconstruction on Monday. The content of the agreement is a "deepening cooperation in the areas of health, science and education, economy and agriculture, among others", as the state of Tyrol announced in a press release.
A Ukrainian delegation led by the regional administrator of Transcarpathia Oblast, Viktor Mykyta, and the Ukrainian ambassador to the Republic of Austria, Vasyl Chymynez, will be in Tyrol until Tuesday. The program of the Ukrainian guests includes numerous appointments and local inspections.
Rehabilitation center to receive wounded civilians
On Monday morning, for example, the rehabilitation center in Bad Häring in the lowlands was visited. Staff there collected medical equipment such as ultrasound devices, wheelchairs and bandages to be sent to the war-torn regions in Transcarpathia. Tirol is supporting this initiative and is covering the transportation costs, for example. Discussions are also being held as to whether and to what extent the rehabilitation center could take over the treatment of war-wounded civilians.
100 Tyrolean mountain sheep are to be transported to Transcarpathia in March. The animals are to be made available to sheep farms in the Ukraine for the development of professional lamb production.
Mattle: "Helping the children in particular"
Tyrolean Governor Anton Mattle (ÖVP) emphasized the importance of the cooperation: "The war in Ukraine and the many fates associated with it get under your skin. That is why we are supporting peaceful reconstruction in Ukraine and helping those who are suffering the most from the armed conflict, namely the children."
