Detention is the name of the game for the KAC in the quarter-final against Vorarlberg! After a disastrous performance, they went down 1:6 and have to return to the "Ländle" on Wednesday.
The Red Jackets had won three games in a row against Vorarlberg in the quarter-finals and already had their sights set on the semi-finals. Now, however, they were dealt a heavy blow. In the third home game of the series, Furey's team pressed hard in the first period, but were barely able to score against the strong Vorarlberg defense. Three power plays in the opening period were also wasted. On the other side, Oskar Maier made it 1:0 with a thousand-gulden shot.
Bitter middle third
The second period was bitter: within six minutes (!) the visitors pulled away from 0:1 to 0:5, thus deciding the game within a very short time. Especially when conceding goals three to five, they were caught out cold, Owre and Co. always alone against KAC goalie Dahm. They continued to play too imprecisely and awkwardly up front and were barely able to threaten Vorarlberg goalie Caffi.
In the end, the scoreboard showed a 1:6 defeat, with Johannes Bischofberger scoring the consolation goal in the final third - leaving the KAC with a 3:2 lead in the series. The next match puck is away in Feldkirch on Wednesday.
VSV say goodbye for the vacations
Over, over, VSV is now off! In game four of the quarter-finals at home, Bolzano scored on the first power play after ten seconds through McClure to take the lead (11'). Not much else happened in the opening period, VSV was non-existent offensively.
That changed in the second period: In a strong phase for the Adler, Felix Maxa dusted off a shot from Alex Wall in minute 29 to make it 1:1. Villach continued to press - but Bolzano's Thomas shocked the Villach team with a great individual move: He finished off a solo run with a lob into the short cross - 1:2 (32'). Lamoureux then prevented worse with two great chances from Mantenuto and Halmo, and he also reacted superbly to a McClure shot.
Tomazevic missed the chance to equalize
Shortly afterwards, Sabolic was rightly given a game time penalty after a hard check to Mantenuto's head - even in the five-minute power play, "JP" did not allow anything more. Tomazevic even had a great chance to make it 2:2 while short-handed (46'). But that was all Villach managed in offense. As a result, they lost the series 1:4 - and "Blue-White" is on vacation.
