Stabbing after dispute over space on park bench

An argument broke out between two young men on Keplerplatz on Monday. The argument was preceded by a dispute over a seat on a park bench. The 26-year-old then attacked the 35-year-old with a knife.

On Monday morning, the police were alerted because a man had been spotted with a knife in the area of Keplerplatz in Vienna-Favoriten. On the scene, the officers found a 26-year-old man with a folding knife in his hand and head injuries and a 35-year-old man with cuts on his hand.

Injured to the head
After the initial investigation, it emerged that the 26-year-old had thrown a drink in the 35-year-old's face after the latter stated that there was no more room on a park bench. As a result, the 26-year-old injured the 35-year-old's hand with a knife, causing them both to fall to the ground and injuring the 26-year-old's head.

The 26-year-old was provisionally arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. During a search of his rucksack, the police also found a plastic bag containing suspected cannabis and seized the murder weapon.

Riot at the police station
The two men were initially given medical treatment by Vienna's professional ambulance service. At the police station, the arrested man then attacked several officers, kicked them and damaged a holding cell. By order of the Vienna public prosecutor's office, he was taken to a prison.
