Styrian full-throttle spectacles attract masses of fans
Hundreds of thousands of fans are once again flocking to Styria this year. A packed motorsport calendar awaits with countless highlights. It all starts this weekend.
The Styrian wine route gets loud from Friday! The lateral drivers among the PS artists can ring in the Styrian motorsport season at the Rebenland Rallye. Around 20,000 fans are expected along the special stages and in the start/finish area in Leutschach over the two days.
It is the starting signal for a loud, exciting and top-class season that has many highlights in store and will delight hundreds of thousands. Styria is home to the entire spectrum of motorsport.
RED BULL RING: In Spielberg, more than half a million fans can once again be expected at all events this year. "In 2024, we will once again host the most popular racing series in the world and stage the biggest sporting events in the country. Our team has once again put together unique shows around the races this year," promises Ring Managing Director Erich Wolf.
This year, the Red Bull Ring is one of only five circuits in the world that can host both Formula 1 (28 - 30 June) and MotoGP (16 - 18 August), putting it in an exclusive league with Barcelona, Silverstone, Losail and Austin.
In addition to the two premier classes, the DTM (27 - 29.9.) and the Red Bull Ring Classic (7 - 9.6.) will also return to Spielberg. There is even a four-ticket package at the Ring. "The run on tickets is currently unbroken. The beautiful pictures of Styria and the Mur Valley will once again go around the world," says Wolf, on whose circuit smaller events also take place almost every week.
RALLY: Half of the Austrian national championship will take place on Styrian soil this year. The Rebenland Rally kicks off in a few days' time. "The event has developed well and built up a stable fan base," explained Leutschach's mayor Erich Plasch, who acts as organizer and host together with his municipality.
A new addition to the program is the Murtal Rally (14/15 June), which aims to shine with a detour to the Red Bull Ring and a Judenburg "inner city criterium", which once attracted around ten thousand fans. "I have never experienced such a positive response to an event in the whole of Austria," said organizer Willi Stengg recently. To round off the Styrian "rally trinity", the Weiz Rally (July 11 - 13) awaits in July.
OFFROAD: At the end of May and beginning of June, the Erzberg will once again become a race track for four days. 1,500 participants will be putting the pedal to the metal in the various events from May 30 to June 2. "The event is doing very well, we are better booked than last year. We don't feel any signs of an economic crisis, people are even eager to attend," explains Erzbergrodeo boss Karl Katoch, who is likely to welcome around 40,000 fans to the mining area again. Motocross fans will get their money's worth on Easter Monday: The Austrian national championship starts in Paldau on April 1.
BERGRENNEN: The prestigious Rechberg race is being held for the 50th time. 250 participants and around 20,000 fans are expected and the race marks the start of the European Championships. "Last year, we had more starters and spectators than we have had for a long time. We want to build on that," says Rechberg boss Peter Eibisberger. A third video wall for the spectators and five cameras along the track should ensure an even stronger racing feeling.
In addition to the Rechberg race, the Hillclimb Rally Cup also awaits, starting on March 24 in Lödersdorf and ending with the eighth and final race in Neudorf/Passail on October 20. All races take place in Styria.
