Dismisses employees
Trump relies on nepotism for party leadership
No sooner has he been confirmed as the candidate for the US presidential election than Donald Trump is reorganizing the Republican party leadership according to his own ideas. More than 60 employees are to be made redundant. Trump's daughter-in-law Lara became deputy party leader (see video above).
According to US media, the first layoffs of party employees began on Monday. In total, more than 60 people who previously worked for the Republican National Committee (RNC) are to be dismissed. This is likely to include at least five executives. The employees will be replaced by Trump confidants, among others.
These include, for example, his daughter-in-law Lara, a former TV presenter and television producer. She was involved in Trump's presidential election campaigns in 2016 and 2020 and has been deputy leader of the Republican Party since March. Among other things, Lara Trump supports animal rights and has campaigned for wild horses and animals in shelters. She believes the upcoming presidential election is about a battle of good versus evil.
Legal costs not a problem
On Friday, Trump loyalist Michael Whatley was also elected as the new party chairman - not by a party convention, but by the members of the RNC. His predecessor Ronna McDaniel had already been selected by Trump. However, she is likely to have fallen out of favor recently as the party's donations had dwindled.
However, according to his daughter-in-law, the costs of Donald Trump's lawsuits are not a problem. The Republicans are prepared to cover these costs.
According to reports, the more than 60 employees are to be dismissed at the end of March unless they reapply. The British daily newspaper "The Guardian" reported that the move was intended to avoid overlaps in the tasks of the party leadership and the Trump team.
Not a new phenomenon
Cronyism is not a new phenomenon, neither in the USA nor with Trump. The politician made his son-in-law Jared Kushner head of the election campaign in 2016, later becoming chief adviser and Middle East peace envoy. Daughter Ivanka Trump was already a presidential advisor.
