"This would never have happened to Meghan", a source allegedly close to the Sussexes said earlier this week after the furor surrounding Princess Kate's edited Mother's Day photo. Now, for the first time, the exiled royals themselves have spoken out about "Kategate" - with some surprising news.

Meghan has "an insane attention to detail", the source explained according to Page Six, which is why the Duchess of Sussex would probably never make a photo editing mistake like Kate.

"If Harry and Meghan had ever faced the same problem, they would have been destroyed," the source also continued.

Sussexes speak out
Another jab at Kate after numerous accusations made by the Sussexes against Prince William's wife in the past? Not at all, Harry and Meghan have now announced - and have spoken out for the first time about "Kategate".

In an interview with "Newsweek", a spokesperson for the exiled royals made it clear that this statement did not come from Meghan and Harry! However, the two did not want to say any more about the furore surrounding Kate's edited Mother's Day photo.

Kate's Mother's Day photo caused a stir
At the weekend, Kensington Palace published a photo of Princess Kate and her three children George, Charlotte and Louis in order to put a stop to the rumors circulating about her state of health. However, the campaign backfired: because the photo, which was officially taken by Prince William, had been edited, photo agencies withdrew it due to suspicions of fakes.

Kate finally admitted to the editing on Monday and explained that, like many "amateur photographers, I occasionally experiment with photo editing". She also apologized for "the confusion".

"Absolutely unfortunate"
But the Princess of Wales' public apology doesn't seem to be enough for many: the wildest theories about what could really be behind the photo editing are multiplying, especially on social media.

Royal expert Jennie Bond even warned in the middle of the week against "forcing Kate to publish all the pictures" and is convinced that the mother-of-three must feel "absolutely miserable" after the huge uproar surrounding her work. The 42-year-old, who is still recovering from her abdominal surgery, should be "left alone", Bond warned.

Princess Kate underwent surgery in January and had to stay in hospital for around two weeks. Since then, the mother-of-three has been recovering at home from the stresses and strains of the operation. As the palace announced after the operation, her first public appearance will not take place until after Easter.
