Control in Innsbruck
Taxi drivers targeted by the police: Drugged drivers!
Get off the plane or train and into a cab: especially in the winter season, tourists can make good money. The fact that things are not always above board in the cab business was recently demonstrated again during a targeted operation at Innsbruck airport and main railway station.
Last Saturday, cab drivers at the travel hotspots were closely scrutinized as part of a targeted "action sharp" by the police, finance department and Innsbruck city council. A total of 119 people were checked for immigration and financial police offenses as well as under the Occasional Traffic Act.
The results of the police and the city council are as follows:
- Two cab drivers were under the influence of drugs. Their driving licenses were confiscated immediately.
- A total of 15 violations of various administrative penal laws were reported during the cab checks.
- Thecity council also reported eleven violations of the Tyrolean Passenger Transportation Operating Ordinance.
Illegal employment, discrepancies with cash registers
The financial police officers also had their work cut out for them. Two taxi drivers who were not properly registered for social insurance were caught. Another driver collected unemployment benefit despite his cab activity.
In addition, discrepancies in connection with the cash register and an enforceable tax arrears amounting to 4,500 euros were discovered in five cases.
