There is another confirmed case of measles in Salzburg - this time in Straßwalchen. The public health department launched a public appeal because not all contact persons can be identified.
The key points of the public appeal by the Salzburg Umgebung district authority:
- Affected period and location: A person infected with measles was at Billa Straßwalchen (Salzburger Straße 50, 5204 Straßwalchen) on Monday, March 11, between 6:50 am and 1:00 pm.
- Those persons who were there during this period and do not have immunity due to two measles-mumps-rubella vaccinations or due to a past measles disease are asked to monitor their state of health. If the symptoms listed below occur by 29.03.2024, the family doctor must be informed immediately by telephone, indicating possible contact with measles. In this case, contact with other people should be avoided as a matter of urgency.
- Typical symptoms of measles: Eight to ten days after infection, almost all infected persons experience the first general symptoms such as fever, runny nose, cough and conjunctivitis. Around twelve to 14 days after infection, the typical measles rash (red-brownish medium-sized spots) begins, usually on the face and behind the ears. The rash slowly spreads to the whole body and lasts for around four to seven days.
It was not until mid-February 2024 that a six-year-old in the city of Salzburg was infected with the highly contagious disease.
