Hacker attack on customers of Klagenfurt Wohnen

There was a cyber attack on "Klagenfurt Wohnen" in Graz. "We have been using the software of a Styrian IT company since 2007, and there was a hacker attack last weekend," says the new managing director Gerhard Scheucher. This has paralyzed Klagenfurt's data. The exact extent to which "Klagenfurt Wohnen" has been affected is not yet clear. 

Following the massive criticism of "Klagenfurt Wohnen" by the provincial audit office, a hacker attack has now solved many mysteries. The hacked IT company based in Graz manages 80 databases of real estate companies. The extent to which Klagenfurt Wohnen is affected in detail is not yet known.

10,000 people affected
"To do this, the operating software has to be restarted, which won't be possible until Friday or the beginning of the week at the earliest. Only then will we know what data has been tapped." There have not yet been any attempts at blackmail. "Klagenfurt Wohnen" manages 3100 apartments. A total of 10,000 people are affected.

Restart planned
It is still unclear whether addresses, billing data or account information have been affected by the hacker attack. The hacked IT company manages 80 databases of real estate companies. The new housing officer, Alexander Kastner (Team Kärnten), is restarting the "Klagenfurt Housing" department in any case following criticism from the provincial audit office.

The Deputy Mayor has drawn up a 10-point program. "There are new allocation guidelines to ensure transparency and fairness. Gerhard Scheucher has become the new managing director and a new auditor has also been appointed. Vacant apartments are to be offered quickly after refurbishment."

Market value to be recalculated
The market value is also being recalculated. Only six million euros are available for the renovations, which would require many times that amount. "That's why we've already considered whether the city should divest itself of individual apartments," says Kastner.
