So Leoben’s goalscorer has no desire for revenge!

Goals pave his way! After 17 games this season, Deni Alar has scored an incredible 19 goals. The striker's hunger for goals is far from satiated, and on Friday (18.10) he takes on his former club Vienna with second division club DSV Leoben. He wore the Vienna jersey for a year and a half, and it was a torrid time.

"I didn't score for three rounds at the start, then scored a brace. I came away empty-handed in the game after that and then found myself on the substitutes' bench," Deni Alar recalls the difficult time at the Hohe Warte. "If you don't get the confidence, it's difficult."

The substitutes' bench, and then increasingly often the stands, eventually became his home at the traditional club. A conversation with coach Alexander Zellhofer was also for the Jetti aunt. "That wasn't satisfying! He did say that I was training well, but he couldn't give me an explanation as to why I wasn't playing," recalls the veteran. In the end, his haul at Hohe Warte was meagre: just 24 games, three goals and a measly 624 minutes of action. Water under the bridge.

Since his return to the Donawitz blast furnaces, Alar has been the goal monster he was back then! Deni has only missed one game so far this spring. The 34-year-old was also on hand to score the golden goal in the recent hit against Ried.

"Just as I have no explanation as to why it didn't work out at Vienna, I don't have one now as to why it's going like clockwork. The fact is: I've always trained well at Döbling and never let myself down. Now I'm obviously being rewarded for it. I'm simply enjoying the run and hope that it continues in this vein for a while longer."

Unbeaten for 14 games
The goal machine is almost bursting with confidence, but so is his team. Since September 22 (0:4 against the FAC), Rene Poms' blast furnace ballet has remained unbeaten in 14 games in a row and has also reached the Cup semi-finals against Rapid. In the spring, the Styrians scored four three-pointers in a row in the league. "Everyone here knows what they have to do. We are a well-coordinated squad and a real unit," said Alar, explaining the recipe for success for the runners-up in the table. Against Vienna, the Poms men have their sights set on the next coup. "I'm looking forward to seeing my former colleagues again. But be careful, Vienna have a good team," warns the goalscorer, who returns without rancor. "I have no desire for revenge, that wouldn't help either."
