Almost 100,000 euros
67-year-old lost his savings to fraudsters
A 67-year-old Upper Austrian man has transferred a large part of his savings to unscrupulous fraudsters. The man is now around 100,000 euros poorer and investigations into the perpetrators are ongoing. The police are once again calling for caution and giving important tips.
On March 12, a 67-year-old man from the Vöcklabruck district filed a complaint about an investment fraud. It turned out that he wanted to invest his savings on the internet. He found a reputable website in Germany and registered there. A few days later, he received a call from a man with a German dialect who contacted him repeatedly and already knew all his details.
Bank still contacted the victim
In the end, he transferred almost 100,000 euros to a Dutch account. The bank responsible then contacted him to ask whether this sum of money would be confirmed for the transfer. After the money was transferred to the account, his money was immediately removed and the access data for the online deposit was not provided either. The investigation into the unknown perpetrators is ongoing.
Important tips from the police
- Remain suspicious! Please do not believe everything you see, hear and read on the Internet.
- Contact the Financial Market Authority at www.fma.gv.at, where you will find current scams.
- Under "Watchlist-Internet" you will find further traps/fakes, as well as Internet scam sites and other tips.
- Check the imprint, e-mail addresses and customer advisors or names of the respective site carefully - the scams are often very similar, but always contain errors and above all different domain addresses to those of the official website.
- Do not be tempted by the promised increase in assets and always get a second opinion beforehand.
- Do not allow strangers remote online access to your computer.
- In the event of damage, contact your bank immediately and then report it to the police
