Presenter responds to nasty cheating accusation
No, star presenter Kate Abdo is not one to mince her words - and she didn't let the nasty cheating accusation from former footballer Jamie Carragher sit on her head for long. In her opening monologue for Wednesday's Champions League matches on CBS, she reacted with skillful confidence and even ended on a conciliatory note.
The backstory: It was after Arsenal's progression to the Champions League quarter-finals against Porto on Tuesday evening that the former Liverpool captain accused Abdo of cheating. She was not "loyal" to her partner Malik Scott, according to the allegation, which caused quite a stir.
But Abdo hit back on Wednesday. "After our trip to the Emirates Stadium, we are back in our Champions League studio. This group has been together for three and a half years, I grew up with one brother and I feel like I've gained three more here," said the presenter to her colleagues Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards, whom she now also addressed personally.
"Annoying family member"
Thierry Henry, "of course, is the golden child. He can do no wrong, always says the right thing and is a role model for the rest of us. Intimidating? Yes, he can be, but he's the big brother we all look up to," says Abdo. Then it's the turn of her favorite colleague. "Yes, then there's also the middle child, Jamie Carragher, who doesn't let anything get him down and can say anything to get attention. Does he sometimes go too far? Absolutely. But does he apologize? Yes, he does. But we all have that one annoying family member who we still love and accept."
Ex-City star Richards would then be the little brother. "He's loud and lovable. Easy to annoy, impossible not to love and everyone's favorite. And like a good family, we all stick together. A new day, a new show. Nice to be with you all." Meaning: all's well that ends well ...
