Weather chaos in the USA
Huge chunks of ice: “Gorilla hail” in Missouri
Violent hurricanes and tornadoes have injured several people in the USA - according to unconfirmed reports, there have also been fatalities - and caused considerable damage. The states of Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky were particularly affected. There are said to have been at least eight tornadoes within a few hours.
In the small town of Winchester (Indiana), there were "many, many serious injuries", said a police spokesman on Friday night.
He was unable to give exact figures. There had previously been reports of at least three deaths. However, the spokesman was unable to confirm this.
50 percent of all buildings damaged
In the Randolph district, where Winchester is also located, a supermarket and a fast food restaurant were also destroyed. In the town of Selma, around 25 kilometers to the west with a population of around 750, the storm damaged around 50 percent of all buildings, but fortunately there were only minor injuries.
"It's pure devastation"
Damage was also reported from Lakeview in Ohio. "It's pure devastation," a local woman told ABC 6 News. "I've never seen anything like this in my life. Our community building is destroyed, our laundromat is gone," she added. Trees have been blown down, houses have been covered.
There were also reports from the town of Milton (Kentucky) of at least 50 buildings damaged by storms.
I've never seen anything like it in my life. Our church building is destroyed, our laundromat is gone.

50,000 households without electricity
Power was also cut in many places due to damaged lines, the reports continued. According to the website Poweroutage.us, around 50,000 households in Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky were without electricity early on Friday morning. Many schools remained closed on Friday.
Experts attribute the accumulation of natural disasters in the USA - storms, floods and forest fires - to the consequences of climate change.
