Huber our best
Women’s slalom in Saalbach from 10.30 am LIVE
Mikaela Shiffrin has also won her second race after her injury break. The slalom globe winner from the USA won the slalom at the World Cup final in Saalbach-Hinterglemm ahead of Norway's Mina Fürst Holtmann (+0.54 sec.) and Sweden's Anna Swenn Larsson (+0.63), who was leading at the halfway point. It was Shiffrin's ninth win of the season. Katharina Huber achieved her best career result in the gate run in fifth place (+0.79), Katharina Liensberger came sixth (+0.93).
Shiffrin skied to her ninth win of the season and 97th World Cup success in real April weather with alternating rain and sunshine and took home her eighth crystal globe in the slalom. "I'm grateful to have had these two final races, it's something to be proud of. I'm not really happy that the season is over now, but I'm looking forward to Aleks and coming home." For friend Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, the season has been over for some time due to injury.
Shiffrin finished the slalom season 322 points ahead of Germany's Lena Dürr and 325 ahead of the injured Slovakian Petra Vlhova. The best Austrian in the discipline ranking was Liensberger in seventh place, with Huber in tenth. On Saturday, Liensberger knew that even more would have been possible. "Annoying, but I showed good turns."
As the last few races had not gone so well, Huber was delighted with the end of the season. "I could have done better on the finish slope in the first run, but I can be more than happy with the final result. I've shown good races and good sections this year. The fact that I know I can be at the front is certainly very good." Salt races are not her favorite, but it worked well this time. "I was pleasantly surprised in the second one, the course was almost better than the first. You have to congratulate the organizers."
Here are the final results:
"A day to forget"
Katharina Truppe (13th/+1.66) spoke of a "day to forget". She said it wasn't the weather that made her skiing so miserable and that she couldn't get into any body tension. "It's depressing because I wanted to finish well. You can look on the bright side, so many people dropped out that I still scored points." In the longer term, she needs to become more consistent and perhaps improve a bit physically. Katharina Gallhuber was eliminated in the second round. "That's incredibly bitter. I'm satisfied with my skiing development this season."
