Malfunction paralyzes many McDonald’s in Austria
A computer malfunction at McDonald's has paralyzed numerous branches of the fast food chain in Austria, Germany and many other countries around the world. However, the US company ruled out a hacker attack. "There is a technical fault that is affecting our restaurants," McDonald's announced on Friday. The company is working on a solution.
"Our restaurants were briefly affected by a technical outage this morning, which has since been resolved," McDonald's Austria said. However, the disruption was not a "cybersecurity event".
The disruption began in the early hours of the morning. According to the Japanese group division, many branches are no longer accepting orders due to the disruption.
From Austria to Australia
The disruption also affected the branches in Australia, according to the head office there. The "New York Times" also reported on a computer system failure at McDonald's in Hong Kong, while a report in the "New Zealand Herald" stated that there were IT problems in New Zealand. According to the report, functions were either restricted or customers were unable to place orders at all.
McDonald's operates almost 3000 branches in Japan, around 1000 locations in Australia, around 245 branches in Hong Kong and over 160 restaurants in New Zealand, according to the websites of the respective regions.
