Viennese woman as victim
Raped on the way home: Man (55) caught
On the night of March 15, a woman was raped by a previously unknown perpetrator on her way home in Vienna-Wieden. He fled shortly afterwards. A few days later, officers managed to arrest a suspect (55) during a routine check.
The suspect had dragged the 41-year-old woman into a garage entrance in Viktorgasse in the middle of the night. Shortly afterwards, he raped her. When the victim screamed loudly for help, neighbors became aware of the two. The unknown perpetrator immediately fled and the 41-year-old woman alerted the emergency services. However, there has been no trace of the suspect so far. The woman was taken to hospital.
Video footage led to suspect
Video recordings from the vicinity of the crime scene were secured and a precise description of the perpetrator was released for the manhunt. Officers then arrested a suspect in the Margareten district last Sunday, who is subject to a current residence ban.
Denies the crime
The 55-year-old was arrested by order of the Vienna public prosecutor's office. During questioning, he stated that sexual acts had taken place, but denied the accusation of rape. After questioning, the 55-year-old was taken to a prison.
