Fight for a World Cup place
Rieser wants to make it into the concert of the greats
Skier Stefan Rieser can secure his ticket for the 2024/25 Downhill World Cup at the European Cup final in Kvitfjell. The 25-year-old from WSV Dorfgastein would also settle an outstanding score from last year on Thursday in Norway.
The leap from the European to the World Cup is one of the most difficult in a skier's entire career. It is often initially associated with disappointment. Stefan Rieser can tell you a thing or two about that.
Last season, the Pongau native was on the verge of securing a ticket for the Downhill World Cup. Only to fall out of the top 3 in the last race of the year. On Thursday, the 25-year-old from WSV Dorfgastein finds himself in the same position at the European Cup final in Kvitfjell (Nor). In second place, Rieser has a 51-point lead over the fourth-placed Styrian Vincent Wieser. The gap to the leader Lars Rösti from Switzerland is only nine points.
