A serious traffic accident occurred in St. Michael (Lungau) in the morning hours on Thursday. A car crashed into an embankment and skidded through the air. The driver was trapped. In Mauterndorf, a car crashed into the bed of a stream.

In the early hours of Thursday morning, a serious traffic accident occurred in St. Michael im Lungau on the B99 near the traffic circle at the sports center. A car collided with the embankment, was thrown into the air and finally came to a standstill on the opposite side of the road. The driver of the car was trapped in the accident, according to the fire department and police.

The St. Michael fire department arrived at the scene with three vehicles and 19 men. With the help of hydraulic rescue equipment, the emergency services managed to free the trapped driver. At the same time, the scene was made safe and supportive measures were initiated by the Red Cross.

The road maintenance department took over the clean-up work, while the police investigated the accident. One person with undetermined injuries was transported to Tamsweg Hospital. According to the police, an alcohol test could not be carried out due to the injuries.

Car crashed into the bed of a stream
A car had also crashed into a stream bed in Lungau an hour earlier. For reasons as yet unknown, the vehicle slid over a steep embankment into the bed of the Taurrach stream in Mauterndorf. The driver left his car uninjured and independently.

The heavy rescue vehicle from Tamsweg was also requested to carry out the recovery of the vehicle. With the help of the crane and the cable winch, the emergency services managed to pull the vehicle safely out of the stream bed. The operation was completed after around an hour.
