"Stop the witch hunt"
Garnishment threatens: Trump is now begging his fans
In the middle of the election campaign for the US presidency, things are getting financially tighter for former head of state Donald Trump. He has to deposit 454 million US dollars (approx. 417 million euros) as security in court by the end of the month. This seems to be causing him major problems - which is why he is now calling on his fans for help.
"Before the day is over, I'm calling on ONE MILLION pro-Trump patriots to do their part and say: STOP THE WITCH HUNT AGAINST PRESIDENT TRUMP!" the ex-president hopes - eloquently as always - for financial support from his supporters.
"Keep your filthy hands off Trump Tower"
And the money seems to be urgently needed, as it doesn't look like he can raise it on his own so far. In the letter to his fans, he once again sees himself politically persecuted by public prosecutor Letitia James, who wants to have Trump's properties seized in the event of non-payment. "LET YOUR THRILLED HANDS OFF TRUMP TOWER!" he continued.
In general, he sees a conspiracy by the campaign team of his successor Joe Biden behind the numerous accusations against him, simply to damage his chances in the elections.
Security needed, otherwise confiscation
Trump was sentenced by a court in mid-February to pay 354.9 million dollars (approx. 326 million euros) plus interest, which will be added on an ongoing basis. The judge considered it proven that the ex-president had overstated his assets in order to defraud lenders - Trump still takes a completely different view.
He now needs the requested 454 million dollars to be able to appeal in the New York fraud trial - and thus prevent his property from being seized by the state of New York. However, Trump's lawyers only admitted on Monday that such a large sum could not be raised "under the circumstances".
