Lewis attacks FIA:
“Terrible message we are sending to the world”
Lewis Hamilton has sharply criticized the FIA. As part of Susie Wolff's lawsuit against the motorsport association, the Briton accused those responsible of a lack of transparency. According to the seven-time world champion, this sends the wrong message to the world.
Background: Wolff was investigated in December, the 41-year-old was accused of passing on confidential financial information to her husband, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff. Now the British woman counterattacked and filed a counterclaim against the FIA.
"How can you trust the sport?"
"Susie is so brave. She's a real leader in a world where people are increasingly silent. I love that she is taking action because there is often a lack of responsibility in this world," said Hamilton at a press conference for the upcoming Australian GP, praising the former racing driver before lashing out at the association. "There is no transparency in the FIA, nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors. There is clearly no accountability - but we need that. I think the fans need that. How can you trust the sport and what happens here if you don't have that?" the 39-year-old made clear.
Reports about Christian Horner are currently causing quite a stir in motorsport's premier class. The Red Bull team boss is alleged to have sent sex messages to a female employee, but the 50-year-old was acquitted following an internal investigation.
"Sport is dominated by men"
"Hopefully this attitude that Susie is now taking will bring about a change and have a positive impact - especially for women," hopes Hamilton. "Because this sport is still dominated by men. We live in a time where the message is: if you complain, you'll be fired! That's a terrible message we're sending to the world right now."
