Knife as a weapon
Another bloody knife attack at Reumannplatz
Within a few days, there were two more bloody attacks in Vienna-Favoriten: A 28-year-old man was attacked with a knife by an unknown man on Favoritenstraße. At the same time, there was allegedly a brawl in the area of the Reumannplatz subway station. A knife was also involved here.
In the incident in Favoritenstraße at around 6 p.m., the victim (28) had had an argument with an unknown man, who injured him with a knife and fled.
The Vienna Professional Rescue Service and the police were on the scene. The seriously injured man was immediately taken to hospital. According to rescue spokesman Daniel Steiner, the man suffered a deep stab wound to the thigh.
Two knife attacks in one day
At the same time - at around 5.30 pm - there was also a brawl involving several people in the area of the Reumannplatz subway station, according to the police. A knife is also said to have been involved. The police stopped a man who was carrying a knife and had minor injuries to his face. He stated that he had been attacked by several people. He only had the knife with him for self-defense, but he had not injured anyone with it. The officers did not find any other injured persons.
Similar incident a few days ago
Just a few days ago, there were two similar incidents at Reumannplatz. Last Sunday, when several women were being harassed by a group of men, a 21-year-old man rushed to help. But the man was suddenly attacked with a knife by one of the suspects. The victim is said to have been stabbed several times.
Interior Minister Gerhard Karner went to the scene of the crime on Monday to get an idea of the police's focus on combating youth crime. Just a few moments later, there was another knife attack at the same location. The attacker was apprehended. He was a Syrian who was only 18 years old.
