Fire at dam
Massive attack on Ukrainian energy supply
Russia launched massive attacks with drones and missiles on Ukraine's energy supply on Friday night. At least two people were killed and 14 others injured, according to the Interior Ministry in Kiev. More than one million people were without electricity.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared on Telegram: "The targets of the Russian terrorists are clearly demonstrated to the world: Power plants and energy supply, a dam, ordinary residential buildings and even a trolleybus."
Fire at hydroelectric power plant
The country's largest dam at the Dnipro-HES hydropower plant was hit in an attack. However, there is no risk of a breach, according to the operator of the hydropower plant. There was a fire at the plant. Employees and emergency services are on duty. The Ukrainian air force announced that it had shot down 92 of 151 Russian missiles and drones in the massive attacks during the night.
A high-voltage power line to the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant was also cut. The Dniprovskaya power line failed early on Friday morning, the power plant management of the Russian military-occupied power plant in southern Ukraine announced on Telegram. The power supply was ensured by a replacement line and there was no danger to the safety of the nuclear power plant, it added.
Situation "basically under control"
Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmykal emphasized that the situation in the Ukrainian energy system was "basically under control". There was no need to activate emergency plans. Work is already underway to repair the damage.
According to the mayor, there were around 15 explosions in the city of Kharkiv in north-eastern Ukraine on Friday morning due to Russian missile attacks. According to Ihor Terekhov, the attacks were designed to destroy the city's power supply. In some cases, there were power cuts throughout the city.
These attacks are dangerous and irresponsible. While Putin continues his war, we continue to stand by Ukraine.

Air alert from west to east
During the night, there was an air alert in large parts of Ukraine. According to the Ukrainian air defense, Russia had launched cruise missiles from strategic bombers of the Tu-95 type from the area around the Caspian Sea. Later, attacks with drones and ballistic missiles, including the Kinschal, were also reported. Practically all parts of Ukraine were targeted, from Lviv in the west to Donetsk in the east, from Kharkiv and Sumy in the north to Odessa and Mykolaiv in the south.
"Large-scale power outage as a target"
According to official information, there were strikes on energy objects in Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhya, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Lviv and Sumy, among others. "The aim is not only to damage the country's energy system, but also to try to cause a large-scale outage again, just like last year," wrote Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko on Facebook. He acknowledged several hits and power outages in various regions. The power supply to the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant was also affected by the attacks, he also wrote.
Nuclear power plant in frontline area
Europe's largest nuclear power plant was occupied by Russian troops in March 2022 shortly after the start of the war. It is still located in the frontline area and has come under fire several times. The reactors were finally shut down due to safety concerns, but still need to be cooled.
Ukrainian attacks on Russian territories
According to official reports, at least one person was killed and several injured in the shelling of the western Russian regions of Belgorod and Kursk by Ukraine. Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov announced on Telegram on Friday that a woman walking her dogs in Belgorod had been killed by an impact. Two other people were taken to hospital injured; a woman with splinter injuries to her legs and a man with head trauma. Residential buildings and cars were also damaged, Gladkov added.
Reports on helicopter crash
The governor of the neighboring Kursk region, Roman Starovoit, also reported shelling at night. One person was injured in the village of Tyotkina near the border. Property damage was also reported there. A crash landing of a Mi-8 helicopter in the Belgorod region reported by the media has not yet been confirmed. The pilot had to be taken to hospital with injuries, reported the internet portal Baza. Belgorod and Kursk are also used by the Russian army as a deployment area for the invasion of Ukraine. As a result, the regions have recently come under increased fire from Ukrainian forces.
