Does chemotherapy
Princess Kate admits: “I have cancer!”
After the many rumors, Princess Kate has now openly admitted in a video message: "I have cancer!" However, she made it clear that she only found out after her abdominal operation.
The state of health of the wife of the heir to the British throne had been the subject of heated debate for weeks. The palace had only announced that the Princess had undergone a planned abdominal operation in January and expressly stated at the time that it was not cancer. Now the shock: the Princess of Wales has been diagnosed with cancer.
The Princess's video message on the short messaging service X (formerly Twitter):
"It's been an incredibly tough few months for our whole family," she explains in the video, thanking not only the medical team who had cared for her and her fans for "the wonderful messages of support and for your understanding".
"I am now in the early stages of this treatment"
Then she clarifies: Before her operation, "it was assumed that I did not have cancer. However, during the examinations after the operation, it was discovered that I had cancer. My medical team therefore advised me to have preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of this treatment."
Kate wanted to "process and cope with the diagnosis privately"
She explains why she kept the public in the dark about her condition for so long. "It was obviously a big shock and William and I did everything we could to deal with it privately for the sake of our young family. As you can imagine, this has taken some time. I needed time to recover from major surgery so that I could start treatment. Most importantly, we have needed time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that they understand and to reassure them that I will be okay."
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said on X that his thoughts were with the Princess and her family - she could count on the support of the whole country. "She has shown tremendous courage with her announcement today," he said. She had been treated unfairly by the media and on social media. He therefore called for her privacy to be respected so that she can focus on her recovery.
Many headlines about the ailing princess
In recent weeks, there have been a number of rumors and sometimes abstruse conspiracy theories circulating about Kate's state of health. These were further fueled when a family photo published by Kensington Palace was found to have been badly edited in many places. Most recently, it became known that an employee of the London private clinic where Kate is being treated had tried to obtain the royal patient's medical records.
