In Ukraine attacks
Russia violated Polish airspace
According to Polish reports, Russia briefly violated the airspace of NATO member Poland during missile attacks on western Ukraine on Sunday morning. At 4.23 a.m. on Sunday, Polish airspace was violated by a cruise missile launched by a Russian long-range aircraft during the night. The targets of the attack were cities in western Ukraine.
The object entered Polish airspace near the town of Oserdów and remained there for 39 seconds. It was observed by military radar systems during the entire flight.
All necessary procedures had been initiated to ensure the safety of Polish airspace. Among other things, the Polish and allied air forces have been activated.
Lviv bombarded with missiles and drones
The western Ukrainian region of Lviv was fired on by Russia with around 20 missiles and seven drones, the mayor of Lviv confirmed. There were no hits in his city, the largest city in western Ukraine. He did not comment on possible damage in the surrounding area.
Another violation of airspace
The Polish military had already detected a violation of its airspace by a Russian missile at the end of December. The Foreign Ministry in Warsaw then summoned the chargé d'affaires of the Russian embassy and handed him a note of protest. The note called on Russia to "explain the incident of airspace violation and immediately cease such activities".
In November 2022, a missile hit a Polish village on the border with Ukraine, killing two civilians. The West assumes that it was a Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile that had been used to defend against Russian attacks.
