King Charles
“Very emotional” meeting with Princess Kate
The British King Charles, who was diagnosed with cancer in February, traveled all the way from London last week to have lunch with his dearly "beloved daughter-in-law" Kate at Windsor Castle on Thursday and talk to her in private. The following day, the princess also revealed her cancer.
According to British newspapers, the King was "very emotional" after the private lunch with the Princess. The joint battle for health had "strengthened" their special relationship even more.
Welded together
According to the British Sun, Kate and the 75-year-old royal talked about his battle with cancer and how he is coping with it. The 42-year-old is said to be very worried about him. Presumably even more so, as she is now in the same situation herself, which brings the two of them even closer together.
Prince William's wife has only just started her own treatment. Kate was recommended adjuvant chemotherapy by doctors following abdominal surgery in January, after which cancer cells were found.
The pair are also believed to have spoken about Kate's video message, in which she said the discovery of her cancer was a "huge shock" but assured she "will be fine".
"Closely bonded"
A source said of the meeting at Windsor Castle: "The King had already been informed that the Princess, whom he calls 'my beloved daughter-in-law', has cancer." Nevertheless, it was "extremely unusual for just the two of them to meet."
According to the insider, the two had a lot to talk about after both receiving their cancer diagnoses so soon after each other. He explained: "The King left the lunch very emotional. They are very close and he regards Catherine as his daughter."
Even when she was in hospital in January, and the King had prostate surgery at the same hospital, this was evident.
The King has always had a close, warm and unique relationship with the Princess. And she has great love and respect for him and his position.

"When they were in hospital together, he would often shuffle down the corridor to spend time with her. He encouraged and supported her all the time," a royal insider told The Times.
The source is convinced: "The King has always had a close, warm and unique relationship with the Princess. And she has great love and respect for him and his position."
The pair are believed to be determined to be able to support each other despite their "deeply personal cancer battles".
Queen Camilla, the wife of King Charles, is also said to have announced her support for Kate and is in regular contact with her.
Time for the children
Together with her husband Prince William and their three children Prince George (10), Princess Charlotte (8) and Prince Louis (6), the Princess is spending the Easter vacations at her country estate Anmer Hall in Norfolk. Until further notice, there will be no appearances by the Princess after that. She will first finish her treatment and then wait for the green light from her doctors, it was said.
The princess and her husband had timed the release of her video message so that the children would not have to answer awkward questions at school and could get used to the situation in peace with their family, in a place where they felt comfortable.
This also ends the discussion about why Charles made his diagnosis public immediately and Kate did not.
As Princess Kate explained in her video message: "As you can imagine, this took time. I had to recover from the serious operation to be able to start treatment. But the most important thing for us was to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that was suitable for them as children and to reassure them that I would be fine."
