Two schools in Krems and St. Pölten are testing the many opportunities and potential dangers of artificial intelligence in education.

Technological progress brings numerous opportunities, but also real challenges. This is also the case with artificial intelligence (AI). The use of this new technology has already become established both in the world of work and in society.

In the education sector, two "AI pilot schools" have been set up to get an idea of the possibilities. In the schools in St. Pölten and Krems, the main focus was on the correct use of AI, human freedom of choice, data protection and security.

Focus on digitalization
"Artificial intelligence opens up a wide range of possibilities for effectively supporting learning processes in the classroom. In addition to knowing how we can make the best possible use of these possibilities and learn and work with them, it is also an objective to show students the dangers and challenges of AI," explains Provincial Councillor Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister during a visit to the commercial academy in Krems and the grammar school in St. Pölten with Education Minister Martin Polaschek. The two educational institutions with a focus on digitalization were honored as "AI pilot schools".
