NDW classic to replace Germany’s goal anthem

"Then he takes off and completely detached ..." Will we soon be hearing Peter Schilling's cult hit "Major Tom" at Germany's international matches? A petition on the "change.org" platform is calling for just that. The Neue Deutsche Welle hit should replace the song "Kernkraft 400" by Zombie Nation as the DFB team's goal rhyme.

The advertising clip for Germany's European Championship jersey is said to have set the ball rolling. In the video, several players and fans can be seen discussing the look of the new shirt. The clip is accompanied by Peter Schilling's 1982 hit "Major Tom (völlig losgelöst)".

"Feeling of a new beginning"
A song that obviously invites you to cheer. At least that's the opinion of over 10,000 soccer fans who have already signed the proposal. "Regardless of whether you were enthusiastic about the jersey or not, everyone agreed that the song suited a feeling of a new beginning in the national team and soon videos were doing the rounds that used this very song as a goal anthem," the petition reads.

German fans can only hope that national coach Julian Nagelsmann's squad really does get off to a rocket start at the European Championships like Florian Wirtz did against France (see video).
