The “new boy” thrilled his “dragons” at the start
What a start! Running back Steve McShane left his mark on the AFL game against the Tyrolean Raiders. The US boy shone on his debut for the Danube Dragons and was the most valuable player in the win on the Donaufeld pitch.
Rather small, but very agile. With an eye for gaps and incredible drive - running back Steve McShane shone on his debut, leading football champions Danube Dragons as MVP to a 23-7 league-opening win against the Tyrolean Raiders. "He was great," said head coach Fred Armstrong in praise of the US boy, who made it 21-0 after a fantastic 44-yard punt return.
And after scoring a touchdown, he was lifted into the air by the team out of sheer joy. The 1,200 fans on the Donaufeld pitch, where the Dragons grew in the course of this AFL duel, also liked it.
"We showed what we can do, especially in the second and third quarters," said Armstrong. "We got off to a perfect start to the season. You get better the more games you play." On Easter Sunday, the derby against the AFC Vienna Vikings, who won 28:22 at the Prague Panthers.
