Tragic! Talented footballer (17) dies after foul
A tragic death is causing grief and horror in Algeria: Just over a week after being badly fouled in a match, young footballer Wassim Djezzar has succumbed to his injuries in hospital! The Algerian, who played for N.R.B.Oued el ma in a regional youth league, was just 17 years old ...
The fatal accident occurred on March 15, when Djezzar and his teammates were playing against TRB Arris at lunchtime. According to local and national media reports, the man who later died was first kicked between the legs in a duel for the ball and then hit his head on the hard concrete floor.
Apparently, Djezzar lost consciousness immediately as a result - and he was never to regain it. It was a bitter pill to swallow: while coaches and players from both teams immediately rushed to the casualty and administered first aid as best they could, there was no ambulance with paramedics or doctors on site at the match, as is actually required. Djezzar therefore had to be taken to the nearest hospital in a private car. There the doctors fought for the young footballer's life for several days - but on Sunday they had to admit defeat ...
Even the Algerian Football Association intervened after the tragedy - apart from the investigation into the possibly fatal lack of an ambulance on site, FAF President Walid Sadi tweeted: "May the Almighty God welcome the deceased to his vast paradise and may his soul rest in peace!"
