Helicopter rescue in Tyrol
Five German hikers got stuck in the snow
It was meant to be a spring hike - but five German hikers were not prepared for the fact that there was still plenty of snow in the Tyrolean mountains. The quintet wanted to reach the Großer Rettenstein near Kirchberg and got stuck in the mountains.
According to the police, the five hikers were inexperienced alpinists aged between 21 and 22. The Germans wanted to climb the Grosser Rettenstein. The striking peak lies at over 2300 meters and is not yet a suitable hiking destination at this time of year.
Two of the men fell
The young men eventually realized this. They increasingly found themselves in areas with a lot of snow. The hikers changed their destination and wanted to fight their way to the so-called Spießnägel. In doing so, however, they sank knee-deep into the snow. To make matters worse, two of the men fell down a steep slope. One of them injured a foot.
Group rescued with a rope
At around 2.30 p.m., the hikers realized that they could go no further. They made an emergency call. Mountain rescuers and the crew of an emergency helicopter were deployed and rescued the exhausted young men from the helicopter using a rope.
