Alaba and Arnie celebrate
Beer record, kebab and Kaiserschmarrn at 6:1 gala
Beer record, kebab and Kaiserschmarrn! David Alaba and Marko Arnautovic celebrated the ÖFB team's 6:1 gala against Turkey in the VIP stand. There was fair play during the two anthems. A column by "Krone" reporter Alexander Hofstetter.
Red-white-red striped (Austria) or red-white-red with crescent (Turkey)? That was the big question in Vienna yesterday for the international match in the Prater! In the fan store with Lisa, Leonie and Sonja in front of the stadium, the so-called "Matchday scarf" was the big seller. In other words, the scarf that was half dedicated to Austria and half to Turkey.
No whistling concerts
It was also mostly fair in the stands of the Happel Oval, with no whistling during the anthems. In the VIP stand, the unfortunately injured superstars David Alaba and Marko Arnautovic watched their teammates' gala in high spirits, jumping up six times to celebrate the goal despite their injuries.
In the VIP Club, those who left a little too late for the stands at the start of each half missed out on plenty of action and Austrian goals. However, word of the ÖFB squad's lightning-fast qualities should have slowly got around. The culinary temptation for the celebrities was great, however, in view of the international match menu put together by Do & Co, and the classics Kaiserschmarrn and kebab were not to be missed.
"The best national team we've ever had"
The Schweizerhaus in the Prater was the hotspot for the pre-match warm-up for the fans. The members of the "Blutgruppe Rot Weiß Rot" fan club also took their seats there. "This is the best Austrian national team we've ever had," said fan club member Martin, full of enthusiasm for team boss Ralf Rangnick's squad.
For Karl Kolarik and his Schweizerhaus team, international match days are big match days. The hot phase begins four hours before kick-off. The beer kegs are emptied at record speed - an average of 100 pints are sold in ten minutes!
It was a very special day for many Austro-Turks. Also for dad Ömer and his daughters Elif, Miral and Perrin, who traveled to Vienna from Liezen. The Styrian accent is unmistakable, but their hearts clearly beat for Turkey.
However, there was only a happy ending for the red-white-red "striped ones", thousands of Turkey fans left early and disappointed at the latest after the goal to make it 1:5.
