At least twelve people have been killed in an airstrike on a refugee camp in the southern Gaza Strip, according to the radical Islamic group Hamas. The Hamas Ministry of Health stated that children were among the dead. Israel is investigating the incident and announced the death of another hostage kidnapped during the Hamas attack on October 7. Three Palestinians died in clashes in Jenin in the West Bank, according to Palestinian sources.

According to Hamas, the attack hit a tent for displaced persons in the coastal region of Al-Mawasi west of the city of Khan Younis. Al-Mawasi is currently home to thousands of Palestinians who have been displaced from their homes by the war, which has been going on for almost six months, and have been housed there in makeshift tents. Many of them had fled the area around the Al-Shifa hospital in the city of Gaza, which was attacked by the Israeli army.

Nasser hospital shelled but not stormed
According to eyewitnesses, the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis is also under fire. Eyewitnesses told AFP on Tuesday that shots had been fired at the extensive grounds, but that the building had not yet been stormed. The hospital reportedly houses thousands of displaced people.

Death of another Israeli hostage confirmed
In the unprecedented large-scale attack by Hamas on Israel on October 7, around 1160 people were killed and 253 others were taken hostage in the Gaza Strip, according to Israeli reports. According to Israeli information, 130 hostages are still in the Gaza Strip, 34 of whom are presumed dead. Among them was Uriel Baruch, a father of two, who was kidnapped from the Supernova music festival. He is now dead, two groups representing the families of hostages said on Tuesday.

The Israeli army had informed his family that his body was being held in the Gaza Strip, explained the Tikva Forum organization. Another group, the Forum of Hostages and Missing Families, confirmed that Baruch had been killed, describing the father of a five-year-old and an eight-year-old child as a "cheerful person who loved life and loved to have fun". Uriel's body is "still being held by Hamas", the statement continued.

In response to the attack, Israel has since taken massive military action in the Gaza Strip with the declared aim of destroying Hamas. According to Hamas figures, which cannot be independently verified, more than 32,300 people have been killed in the Palestinian territory since then.

High-ranking Hamas leader killed
On Tuesday, the Israeli army confirmed the death of a high-ranking Hamas leader. Marwan Issa, the "number two" of the Ezzedin al-Qassam Brigades, was killed in an attack by the Israeli air force in the Gaza Strip two weeks ago, army spokesman Daniel Hagari told journalists. Issa was "one of the organizers of the massacre on 7 October", Hagari continued. He was the highest-ranking Hamas representative to be killed since the beginning of the war between Israel and Hamas.

According to its own statements, the Lebanese Shiite militia Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets at the northern Israeli border town of Kiryet Shmona. It was a reaction to deadly Israeli attacks in the south of Lebanon on Tuesday. According to earlier reports, three Hezbollah members were killed. According to security sources, at least seven people were also killed in another Israeli attack in southern Lebanon on Wednesday night.
