Wrong diagnosis!
Halle Berry diagnosed with “bad” herpes
In 2021, Halle Berry (57) began to notice the first painful symptoms of the onset of menopause. But her gynecologist wrongly diagnosed her with genital herpes. Now the Hollywood star wants to clear things up.
Like periods, the menopause is still considered a taboo subject. For Hollywood star Halle Berry, this is absolutely unacceptable. With her story, she is now trying to change that and raise awareness.
A few years ago, a gynecologist mistakenly diagnosed the Oscar winner with "the worst case of herpes" he had "ever seen", she was quoted as saying by US magazine "People". Berry was in the perimenopause stage, which heralds the menopause.
"Ifeel like I have razor blades in my vagina"
During the fourth "A Day of Unreasonable Conversation" summit hosted by social impact agency Propper Daley on Monday, Halle Berry described the bizarre way she found out she was going through perimenopause. This describes the transition to menopause, when the first hormonal changes become noticeable due to the progressive drop in estrogen levels. However, Berry was not informed about the symptoms.
In an interview with First Lady Jill Biden (72), the actress recalled a case three years ago. According to "People", she met the "man of my dreams" at the age of 54: Grammy winner Van Hunt (54). But one day, the actress was in severe pain after intercourse. Halle Berry doesn't leave out even the smallest detail - shame has no place in this topic. The "Monster's Ball" star wanted to clear things up. "I feel like I have razor blades in my vagina," she was quoted as saying by the US magazine.
"Worst case of herpes I've ever seen"
Berry immediately went to see her gynecologist. "He said: 'You have the worst case of herpes I've ever seen'." Halle couldn't believe it and replied: "Herpes? I don't have herpes!"
The actress immediately approached her partner Van Hunt about it, they both got tested, but did not contract the sexually transmitted disease. "In retrospect, I realized that this is a symptom of perimenopause," Halle Berry said in an interview with Jill Biden.
She was referring to her vaginal dryness and was annoyed: "My doctor had no idea and didn't prepare me for it." Other symptoms that can occur include: Changes in menstrual cycles, hot flushes, flushing as well as sleep problems.
After this experience, Halle Berry knew that she had to "use her platform": "I have to use everything that I am and I have to start making a difference and making a difference for other women."
