Grand Cliff Top Walk
New attraction delights in the Blue Mountains
The 19-kilometre Grand Cliff Top Walk through the huge, rugged region of the Blue Mountains is set to attract tourists.
New attraction in the world-famous Blue Mountains: In the imposing forest region west of Sydney, the regional government has opened a 19-kilometer hiking trail that connects the famous Wentworth Falls with the towns of Leura and Katoomba. The cost of setting up the "Grand Cliff Top Walk": ten million Australian dollars (six million euros).
It would take two days to complete the entire route, but there are also shorter routes. The new hiking trail is intended to attract tourists from all over the world and thus boost the economy in the region, which has been battered by fires and floods.
In the devastating "black summer" of 2019-2020 in particular, weeks of bushfires took their toll on the flora and fauna of the Blue Mountains.
The huge, rugged region is characterized by dense bushland, steep rock faces, green gorges, waterfalls and eucalyptus forests, to which the Blue Mountains owe their natural blue shimmer and their name. There are also Aboriginal cave paintings dating back thousands of years. The Three Sisters sandstone formation is particularly famous.
