Austrias Fitz blossoms as a goal scorer in spring
Austrias Dominik Fitz has been in absolute top form since the league restart and even leads the scoring charts this year with five goals. The 24-year-old still has a contract with the Violets until the summer of 2026, and on Friday Violett will face BW Linz at home in the qualifying group.
From my point of view, that's simply not enough, especially after last season. My performances have not been able to keep up with that. I certainly have higher expectations of myself," said Dominik Fitz at the training camp in Malta, not mincing his words. Before the league restart in February, the 24-year-old had three assists to his name, but was still without a goal after 17 games.
That's a wrap - the little violet really blossomed in the spring, netting five times in the last six games and even leading the scoring charts in the new year. "The self-confidence is back. The goal against Hartberg was extremely important, it really got me going. I'm now further up the pitch, which wasn't the case in the first half of the year," says the "ten-man". While coach Michael Wimmer says: "I'm convinced that 'Fitzi' is one of the best players in the league in terms of soccer. But he is also a kicker who is quick to be very self-critical and loses his self-confidence as a result. Although it's not necessary. From my point of view, he felt a bit trapped in my game. Now he can move around the pitch more freely and the spaces are still occupied the way I want them to be. I want to make him even better, his running and sprinting skills are always outstanding."
Fitz still has a contract with Austria until the summer of 2026, and with a market value of two million euros, he is the most valuable player in the squad alongside Krätzig. If Fitz continues to deliver so strongly, a transfer could follow this summer. "If the right offer comes along, I'll think about it. But I'm not going to make a snap decision just so I can say I'm playing abroad. The club should get something out of the move and I have to feel good about it!"
